Had the honor of meeting Ray when my band opening a few shows on the Army Of Anyone tour. Got to watch him up close at sound check and the shows and was completely blown away with his playing and performing. He's a monster musician. Glad to say he's also a really nice dude.

I have never seen anybody put so much into a song but at the same time not overplay it’s amazing how he does it. He’s everywhere and it fits.

Man every time I watch this guy play I am completely baffled by what he’s doing always so complicated, but absolutely perfectly fits the song he is all over the place constantly I don’t think he plays a straight beat to save his life. He feels every measure with a beat, throwing voices all around the kit

I love watching Ray play. You really feel like he is enjoying every moment. Great style, with shit loads of subtleties which add to the ambience. Of course add to this technically just brilliant. He's given me the passion to get back to play again after many years off!

So clever of a cerebral drum track, requiring formidable drumming acumen in order to compose and play. The section with all of those consecutive crashes is so tasty and heavy. Edit : Masterclass of groove.

The deep resonation produced from his toms sounds glorious and really comes to the fore when the drums are isolated.

Ray is the man! IDIOSYNCRASY and COLD are my favourite songs and drum tracks from ‘The Nothing’.

There’s a lot going on here, with flams, ghost notes and accents galore, but such is his degree of consistency that each time round they all sound identical. Sick drum track by Ray (which evolved into a slightly sanitised version on the album). Its so apparent that he was a session drummer with a music degree due to every note being executed perfectly … his meter is impeccable and those rim-shots! Edit : That open-handed, open hi-hat groove on the snare, crashes and China is exceptional.

..the music break/limit' him sometimes..did not have the wade' like Eloy have..bit is just the production :P

“Why am I sitting here between these speakers listening to the drums??? I am trying to be a guitar player….” 1978, listening to all the worlds a stage. And THAT folks is why Mr Peart is the exalted, kingly king of the universe of drumming…behold it, scream it from the mountaintops….the craft of drumming will never be better tended to than by Neil….I always gotta put Buddy at #1, but Neil is as close a number 2 as close can be….we forget how great he was because we had become accustomed to his sound.

Never as good live , mainly when the artist is that messed up.
